GiroLaguna North of Venice

An absolutely must-try experience, combining the bicycle with the boat, sailing in the heart of the Northern Lagoon of Venice, a natural place as unique as it is precious.

Once you have taken your bicycles from our meeting point, you will reach Lio Maggiore by crossing the locks on the Casson Canal (“Le Porte”) with your eBike and continuing along via Cristo Re.

You will reach the Town Hall of Jesolo along the Sile river and then continue along the only stretch that is not exclusively cycling path until you reach the historic “Torre Caligo”, an ancient ruin from the Middle Ages. These are the remains of the historic garrison, erected by the Venetians to guard the confluence of the canal of the same name in the Sile-Piave Vecchia.

Here a brief stop is foreseen, with explanation, to listen to the anecdotes and historical past of this important crossroads of commercial exchanges that connected the Sile river with the Venice Lagoon.

There won’t be much left, a few more pedals, to get to taste the local food and wine products, the very tasty “Venetian cicchetto”, a single dish to immerse yourself in the tastes and scents of the Jesolo coast which is so closely linked to the history of Venice.

Once the refreshment stop is over, we set off again, this time loading the bicycles onto the boat to ferry us to Lio Piccolo, where a dozen houses grouped around a small dirt square form the nucleus of the village where the small church and bell tower of Santa Maria still stand out. Maria della Neve and Palazzo Boldù.

Lio Piccolo has an ancient religious history, dating back to the first centuries of the last millennium. Abandoned from 1300 to 1500, a slow repopulation began only in 1600. What you will admire today is a place with strong, uncontaminated nature populated at different times of the year by various species of birds and where the pink flamingos, now sedentary, are the real hosts!
